NEW FENCE FOR THE SANCTUARY
In order to ensure animals don´t escape the sanctuary we need to build a new fence. With this we avoid the risk of the neighbors hitting, maltreating or killing the animals that for them are considered a nuisance. Once more we want to prevent our animals from being run over by the numerous motorcycles that pass in the road outside the sanctuary.
The cost of the fence includes labor, cement, iron mesh, poles, joints and bricks. In this budget 20% has been set-a-side for any unexpected additional costs.

Canto a la vida is an animal sanctuary, whose function is to rescue the stray dogs and cats of Campo Alegre, Colombia. Our objective is to give a better quality of life to all dogs and cats without a home that we receive at our site. We take them in, feed them and rehabilitate them to get over any abuse or neglect they have received in their lives.
The drive of this foundation is Gloria Ramirez Cortes, who 8 years ago together with her family started this initiative. The foundation has survived throughout this time solely due to the support of her family, but after 8 years of running, the family are struggling to continue supporting the sanctuary. The daily work of the foundation is carried out by Gloria and her family aided by temporary volunteers.
Urgently, to guarantee the security of all of our animals, we need to build a new fence as the current one is deteriorating allowing animals to escape. We need to ensure animals cannot wonder outside the site as they may be harmed by neighbors who see them as a nuisance or by the many motorcycles passing by.
We also have existing vet bills that need to be paid and we need to raise money for future expenses such as vet bills and animal feed.
We urgently need to finance the construction of a new fence for our site to guarantee the safety of the animals we have. With our current fence in it´s deteriorated state many animals manage to escape the property, they then run the risk of contracting diseases, being hit by a car or motorcycle or being abused or even killed by neighbors. When our animals escape the foundation they cause problems for the neighboring houses who farm animals such as chickens, these neighbors already do not look kindly on our animals due to the noise they make, especially when vehicles or people pass by.
We also need aid, ideally financial, to pay our important veterinary expenses to pay for things such as spaying and neutering animals, medical consultations, and the purchase of medicines like vitamins, antibiotics and treatments for parasites such as mange and ringworm. These are unavoidable expenses to keep the animals healthy, but have left us with debt that has put the foundation´s financial stability at risk.
We believe in our foundation, as it is a pioneering project which is almost revolutionary in a town like Campoalegre, where the people have very little sympathy or patience with the abandoned cats and dogs that dwell here.
This project is directed towards people all over the world who fight for the rights and welfare of animals, that feel empathy towards mistreated dogs and cats, and who can contribute to a small town like Campoalegre in order to better the quality of life of it´s animals which would otherwise go neglected.
Our main goal would be to be able to pay for the construction of a new fence for our sanctuary; this is our most urgent and costly objective at this time. We also wish to pay off our existing veterinary bills and ensure we have enough money to pay for future expenses to ensure the stability of the foundation.
Gloria Ramirez Cortes, activist for rights of children, the elderly and above all animals, is the driving force of this project. She realized 8 years ago the quantity of animals in very poor conditions that lived in her natal town, Campoalegre, in the province of Hulia, Colombia.
During Gloria´s 8 years of experience, she has used a combination of traditional veterinarian medicine and natural medicine, utilizing medicinal plants typical of the region to cure and feed the cats and dogs.
The team at the sanctuary consists of three women the town of Campoalegre that have worked with Gloria for years to prepare the food, clean the enclosures and continue the treatment and care of the animals. Together with them, 4 to 6 volunteers of all nationalities come to work, helping out with the daily tasks and growing the foundation.
Our overall objective is to give a better quality of life to all abused dogs and cats without a home that we receive at our sanctuary. We take them in, feed them and rehabilitate them in a very difficult environment to work due to the great quantity of animals that need our help and the lack of collaboration from the local community, who don´t understand that the animals suffer and have rights.
Our commitment therefore is not only to the animals, but also to all of the community of Campoalegre, to raise awareness of the importance of the care and protection of these abandoned animals.
