Hi everyone,
Now that April begins and after two months without hearing from us, we think this is a good moment to catch you up on everything that happened during all this time.
Firstly, we have to say thank you for being so patient and showing so much respect for what we are doing. We understand that everyone is eager to have the Bhoreal controller in their hands and that the process is being delayed much more than everybody expected. The team had some personal and professional commitments, which were the main cause of this. There are also other reasons that are being decisive in this regard, such as how self-demanding we are with the rewards or the manufacturing time the suppliers are giving to us. Anyways, as we already mentioned to the ones who contacted us during this period to get some first hand information… it will be worth the wait! :)
But let's go for it…
The Bhoreal Mini Slim controllers are practically about to come on stage. We got the packaging, the T-shirts and the stickers (see slide). We have tested the device in several ways over the last few weeks. A very good idea, because we had to change some LED as they started to do weird things when the PCB was getting hot (seems like the supplier sent us a batch with some defective units). We also had to change the fader (which was logarithmic) into a linear one. During this week we are doing another test (this time with the PCBs inside their cases) to be sure that there are no more surprises. Everything seems pretty stable this time, so the shipping is in sight. You will be informed as soon as the packages are on their way.
Despite of the effort we made to avoid it, we needed to ask for new silicon samples that arrived at the beginning of March. This time, the opacity (everything else was already okay) is much better than with the previous samples. In any case, they are more opaque than the original samples and, although the light diffusion is acceptable, there are some grayish spots in areas where more material is accumulated. This made us to decide to order new samples with a “toner” range (the substance that generates the opacity) that varies from 0.075% to 0.095%, in order to achieve the perfect light diffusion. We are already becoming experts in silicones.. hahahaha! Although somewhat reluctantly, the button pads manufacturer accepted our request, and they should be already manufacturing the samples. We know we are being very strict with this topic, but we consider it essential for a really good finishing of the device. Besides, as soon as we find the right formula, this will be forever. Cross your fingers for it! ;)
At the end of February we received the pre-production units for Bhoreal Slim and Bhoreal Slim Pro models. We are happy to let you know that the design changes and upgrades we made work like a charm. We just have to change a bit the power/data connectors and LEDs position to ensure that the PCB fits perfectly in the case. None of this changes will affect the general functioning of the device, so we are ok! An important point you should know is that we have already made the payment for the PCBs and components for Slim and Slim Pro models manufacturing. The estimated delivery time is 6 weeks. At the same time, we are also working on the first-generation-cases for these devices.
But let's leave the hardware aside for a moment. We have organized a small team to redesign the website (see slide). It will be a huge web platform, not only a website, including a Landing Page” for general info; an Online Shop where you can get the devices and all its components; a Docs section with Quick Start Guides, examples, references, downloads, troubleshooting, etc; a Forum where the community can make contributions and create topics to talk about; and Blog for news and updates. We have everything clear about the design but soon (not to say right now!) it would be necessary the contribution of those interested in developing contents, documenting hardware parts, creating tutorials and, in general, helping to create the best community ever. If you are interested, please, send us an email as soon as possible to info@bhoreal.com in order to coordinate all the process and avoid duplicities. We will inform everyone who has already shown his interest in Goteo's site during these months. We know what we need and we are looking for developers with the ability to compromise and resources to carry out this work.
For the grand finale, we wanted to give you the exclusive (although it won’t be official until around the middle/end of this month) of Bhoreal Mini Slim being included in the “Arduino At Heart” program. This means, not only the product will be supported and distributed by Arduino, this will also help us grow the project and go even further.
