Informazione generale

The Physics Teaching Innovation Group (GIDF) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC), invites you to make the leap to mobile learning. We aim to provide every single student with a small videogame, an application that will help them to learn physics effectively through game-based learning, increasing motivation and the development of multiple skills.

With PhysApps, physics won't be so difficult any more! You'll be able to learn by playing!

Every student could carry their lectures in their pocket in the form of a graphic adventure.
We are asking the physic teachers of the 21st century to get involved!

Alongside them, videogames developers, programmers and illustrators all have a place in the PhysApps project.

Descrizione del progetto. Caratteristiche, punti di forza e peculiarità.

We propose to develop an educational app in the form of an interactive graphic adventure, similar to a videogame, in English, Spanish and Catalan, aimed at learning and consolidating the basic aspects of physics, for compulsory secondary education, upper secondary education and the first years of university studies. The app must be developed for release on various platforms or operating systems (mainly iOS and Android) and will be designed in high definition to ensure it is displayed correctly on tablets such as the Apple iPad. This will be an open and collaborative project, in terms of both the design and the programming of the game.

Motivazione e a chi si dirige il progetto

Physics is one of the core subjects that students commonly consider to be among the most difficult in both secondary and university education. Well into the 21st century, it is taught in the same way it was many years ago… But students have changed so much! We are now in the digital age and games have proved to be particularly useful for learning… So let’s use them!

In addition, there are many people keen to learn videogame programming: we will provide them with all the material used to create PhysApps.

The application, which brings together the expertise of specialist physics teachers at secondary and university levels with experience in the creation of teaching materials, will reflect the content required at different levels of study, making it an ideal open resource for secondary and university students alike.

Obiettivi della campagna di crowdfunding

We want to get funds and support to develop the project with the following main goals:

  • Learning physics by playing.

  • Creating an open videogame where teachers and students will set their own challenges and be co-creators.

  • To do so, we need a space and suitable computer equipment. The work will be on us!

Esperienza previa e team

I am an expert in creating traditional didactic material (textbooks) and virtual learning resources. I currently combine secondary school teaching with my work as an adjunct lecturer at the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE) of the UPC.

I have collaborated with publishers such as Castellnou, Casals, RBA, Edebé, Pearson Education and am currently working with the virtual platform AulaPlaneta. From my experience, I know what is missing in 21st century education: what the publishers dare not do and what we are proposing. We encourage them to join us if they are beginning to see things more clearly!

We have the support of outstanding collaborators:

  • Andrés Aragoneses: science writer and lecturer in physics at the UPC, president of the Terrassa Astronomy Association (Barcelona). He has extensive experience in teaching and in the creation of educational materials for secondary and university education.

  • Denis Anfruns: industrial designer, videogame developer, illustrator and 2D and 3D animator. He brings his passion and knowledge of apps and videogames to the project.

  • Carlos Gea: a professional animator and illustrator, most of the characters and the framework of the games will come from his hands. He has already created some of the characters…
